Academic Options

UCLA's Anderson School of Management offers students a variety of academic options related to business.

Comprehensive Academies 

  • Summer Discovery partners with the Anderson School of Management, UCLA's top ranked Graduate Business School, to offer intensive non-credit academies, exclusively for our students, meeting 4 or 5 times a week, both morning and afternoon, for 2 hours each.

All students receive a UCLA Anderson School of Management "Certificate of Completion" at the end of the program.

Choose one of the curriculum options below. Your choice indicates how you will spend your day academically during the program. These options are comprehensive full-day academies in a specific subject area.

Business of Entertainment, Media & Sports Academy

Offered during 3 Week and 2 Week Session 2

This program is a unique opportunity for high school students to participate in an academic experience at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, sponsored by the Center for MEMES (Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment & Sports) at UCLA's top ranked graduate school of business, and learn from UCLA Anderson School of Management instructors and industry professionals. This academy is designed for high school students based on the UCLA Anderson School of Management's 6 week summer program for university students.

The multi-billion dollar industries of entertainment, media, and sports have become increasingly global. This phenomenon is reflected in worldwide coverage of mega-events from the Olympics and the World Cup, to top-grossing movies and concerts of international superstars. Explore the evolution of these global trends this summer at the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports Academy. Through an introduction to concepts, analyses, and principles – this academy will help you understand the business aspects of entertainment, media, and sports.

Hands-on business exploration

During this 3 week academy, gain insight into the ever-changing business of entertainment, media, and sports. Explore business frameworks including finance, marketing, strategy, and economics. Review case studies, meet with industry professionals, and examine the challenges that face these industries in our fast-paced global environment.

This program meets daily (Monday - Thursday) morning and afternoon. Due to the time commitment involved with this program, no other classes may be taken in conjunction with the Anderson Business Academy.

Students enrolled in The Business of Entertainment, Media & Sports Academy are not permitted to drop the course or change classes at any time once the program is selected.

You will receive a “Certificate of Completion” from UCLA Anderson School of Management at the end of the program.

Digital Marketing & Social Media Academy

Offered during 3 Week Session

This program is a unique opportunity for high school students to participate in an academic experience at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, sponsored by the Center for MEMES (Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment & Sports). Study at UCLA's top ranked graduate school of business, and learn from UCLA Anderson School of Management instructors and industry professionals. This academy is designed for high school students based on the UCLA Anderson School of Management's 6 week summer program for university students.

The Digital Marketing and Social Media intensive full-day academy will give students both the strategic framework and tactical approach to develop and execute goal-oriented digital marketing and advertising campaigns that enhance brands, create a buzz, and motivate desired consumer behavior. Students will learn strategies for how to use platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, mobile apps, online/display, search engine marketing, email, and more. Students will also learn about the various tools and software used to track and optimize campaign performance.

YouTube is now the world’s second largest search engine and the new TV platform for millennials. If Facebook were a country, it would be third in population size behind India and China. News breaks today not on CNN but rather on Twitter, where real-time user generated content exposes the next big story. Technology has created a seismic shift in the way media is consumed, and by extension the way marketers reach and engage consumers. The shift of advertising dollars away from traditional media to online platforms requires students learning marketing to be well-versed in digital marketing.

This 3 week intensive full-day program will provide a solid foundation in the key concepts around digital strategy, campaign execution, and measurement. Students will have the opportunity to examine these topics firsthand through reading, case studies, industry speakers, and hands-on projects.

Offered during 2 Week Session 2

This program is a unique opportunity for high school students to participate in an academic experience at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, sponsored by the Center for MEMES (Management of Enterprise in Media, Entertainment & Sports). Study at UCLA's top ranked graduate school of business, and learn from UCLA Anderson School of Management instructors and industry professionals. This academy is designed for high school students based on the UCLA Anderson School of Management's 6 week summer program for university students.

Gain insight into the ever-changing business of sports and an appreciation for the unique challenges involved in managing sports business enterprises. Explore business frameworks including finance, marketing, strategy, and economics. Review case studies, meet with industry professionals, and examine the challenges that face these industries in our fast-paced global environment. Through an introduction to concepts, analyses, and principles, this program will challenge you with a wide-array of sports business oriented curriculum, help you understand the business and management of sports, and provide you with behind the scenes visits to L.A.’s famous arenas and stadiums.

Students enrolled in the Sports Business Academy are not permitted to drop the course or change classes at any time.

You will receive a “Certificate of Completion” from UCLA Anderson School of Management at the end of the program.
