High-achieving high school students with a passion for justice and a thirst for learning about law, government, and our legal system are invited to spend an intellectually stimulating summer at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School's Pre-College Academy. Students will have the unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of the American legal system through an accelerated version of the first-year law school curriculum.
In this highly selective program, applicants are hand-selected by the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School's Admissions Department. Under the guidance of world-renowned faculty, thought leaders, and seasoned practitioners, all faculty of this esteemed institution, you will engage with coursework similar to the J.D. students, gaining a comprehensive understanding of legal theory and practice.
Students in this program will have access to mock trial rooms, visit the James A. Byrne U.S. Federal Courthouse, and more curated visits designed to complement the in-classroom learning portion of the program. This exceptional program will not only challenge you intellectually but also provide you with invaluable insights into the diverse pathways available within the legal profession. After successfully completing this program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Penn Law Academy.

Pre-College Academy Scholarship Information
The University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and Summer Discovery offer a limited number of program scholarships to qualified students based on need, academic merit, and interest in studying law. A set of scholarships will be specifically awarded to eligible students attending a School District of Philadelphia public or charter high school, and a second set of scholarships will be awarded to students attending a high school outside of the City of Philadelphia (but within the United States).
These scholarships cover all program fees, housing, meals while on campus, and most activities and trips associated with the program. The scholarship does not cover expenses associated with travel to and from the Law School campus in Philadelphia.
Submission Deadline: all scholarship application materials must be received by Friday, January 31, 2025. For complete information on Penn Carey Law Scholarships, please visit the Penn Carey Law website.
*Please note that scholarship applicants do not need to register and pay the fee associated with the Summer Discovery application until after the scholarship recipients are announced in April 2025. After this announcement, all scholarship applicants who are accepted into the program (regardless if they were awarded a scholarship or not) will have the opportunity to register with Summer Discovery.
