Hi Summer Discovery Friends and Families!
Weekend 1 is finally over and we can easily say it was one of the best weekends here at UT Austin! After a week of classes and getting used to all the magic Austin has to offer, students got to relax and get to know what Austin is all about. Here are a couple highlights from this weekend and all the exciting things we got to do!
Kicking off with Friday, students had a wide array of awesome activities to do in which they could finally get a taste of Texas fun. Summer is here which also means it’s time for taking a splash in the infamous Barton Springs pool, it has spectacular views of the city and is also a great place to relax, read a book, or even dive deep. Texas is also known to have great shopping opportunities that’s too hard to pass up including shopping at the San Marcos Outlets which include shops such as Burberry, Lululemon, Calvin Klein, and Abercrombie & Fitch! To top it all off we all got to go and enjoy watching America’s favorite ball game: baseball. The Round Rock Express baseball team took on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. It was a night filled with nachos, hot dogs, singing together to Miley Cyrus, and finally watching the spectacular fireworks. We couldn’t have asked for a better Texas summer night!
Then on Saturday, the Summer Discovery fun continued! What’s a day without a morning workout? Students had the option on waking up bright and early and taking a quick stroll through campus and enjoying the morning summer breeze. Soon after taking a quick shower and eating breakfast, students had a choice between attending the South Congress Street tour or the Austin Duck Tours. Two incredible options! At the South Congress Street trip, students got to walk around this iconic Austin hotspot and visit eclectic shops selling everything from cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and trendy t-shirts! This one of kind spot inspires people from all over the world to be their best selves. Some of our other students also got to visit the Austin Duck Tours! What is better than taking a tour of Austin on land but also on water? Riding on top of a boat (with wheels), we got to dive into the Colorado River and cruise around on Lake Austin. Everything adding up to a perfect summer day. While we saw no ducks on the tour, students were given “quackers” and quacked at Austin locals as we drove by in our massive boat. To top things off, we headed towards Austin Park & Pizza! Students got to enjoy an all you can eat pizza buffet and then ride the go carts, or play the hundreds of arcade games available. The first Saturday of Summer Discovery was one to remember!
After a weekend of fun, Sunday was a mix of everything. Students got to visit the amazing Schlitterbahn Water Park, coined as one of the #1 water parks in the nation by the Travel Channel. The options for fun here in Austin are truly endless. Finally, we got to relax a little bit before classes began on Monday once again. Since Austin, Texas is all about food we lastly got to treat them to Whataburger and Torchys Tacos. To close up the night, we tested our brain skills and challenged ourselves to a game of trivia!
This was what we would call the perfect Texas weekend! A weekend filled with splashes, laughter, and friend filled memories. We can’t wait to tell you more about our Texas summer!
