Students pick one of the following curriculum options below. Jr. Discovery interactive workshops are taught by Georgetown faculty, using the vast resources and facilities available. Workshop sizes average between 8-20 students. Workshops are not graded. Students receive a brief written evaluation for each workshop and a Jr. Discovery "Certificate of Completion" at the end of the program.
The Skills for Mind and Body Curriculum is designed to enhance skills and knowledge, develop critical and independent thinking, and encourage physical fitness. Most Jr. Discovery students take 3 workshops each day, Monday – Thursday. Choose 2 Skills for Mind Workshops that meet each morning for 75 minutes, with a break in between. Choose 2 Skills for Body Workshops that meet on alternating days.Top

Focus on an introduction to economics, business, as well as the philosophy of entrepreneurship. Possible projects include “investing” in the stock market, following trends, creating your own business plan, and examining current economic headlines. You will be able to read a prospectus, learn when to buy and sell your stock and follow the market.
Learn what it takes to get your idea off the ground and into the world. Explore all aspects of a real-life entrepreneurial venture, including creation, development and sales pitch of the next best product.Top
As part of this special program students will take Order in the Court: Mock Trial and choose one additional Law workshop listed below, as well as choose 2 Skills for the Body Workshops that meet on alternating days:
Explore the process of a trial as well as evidence, witness statements, and arguments. You will be assigned roles as judge, attorneys, witness, defendants, jury members and news media in order to really become a part of a trial. You will argue cases and come up with a trial verdict. Guilty or Not Guilty you will decide.
Join the CSI squad to solve the crime. Successful CSI utilizes a step-by-step process in the discovery, preservation, and collection of physical evidence. This workshop examines the techniques professionals use to collect and preserve evidence from crime scenes. Learn about crime scene management; sketching, photography, fingerprint, trace, impression, physiological and firearms evidence; arson and explosives; and safety issues.
Examine the legal issues surrounding performers, athletes, and stars in film, television, music and sports. Topics will include contracts, performance-based incentives, salary caps, licensing agreements and more.Top
