The Commuter Experience at Summer Discovery

At Summer Discovery, we’re committed to ensuring that commuter students enjoy a vibrant, engaging, and seamless experience alongside their residential peers. For Summer 2026, we’ve elevated the commuter experience through thoughtful enhancements that support connection, communication, and community. Whether you’re here for one week or all summer long, here's what to expect.

Personalized Support and Communication

Every campus will have a dedicated Commuter Counselor or Admin who will serve as the primary point of contact for commuter students and families. This ensures that every commuter has a consistent support system from day one. To further streamline communication, Commuter Calendars will be distributed several weeks in advance of the program to support effective summer planning. Additionally, we’ll host a Pre-Summer Commuter Webinar to guide families through expectations and logistics before the summer begins.

Orientation and Daily Experience

Arrival Day includes a dedicated commuter orientation with a clear agenda and presentation—ensuring all students start the summer with clarity and connection. Each commuter will receive a printed Commuter Calendar during check-in, offering a detailed overview of campus activities, and club schedules. Class schedules for three-week students will now include Friday classes (except during the July 4th holiday week), providing a full five-day academic week that aligns with residential students. All Commuter students will receive lunch on campus that is included in their tuition.

Spaces That Foster Belonging

We are intentional about creating inclusive physical spaces. Each campus will provide a student lounge accessible to all students—commuters and residents alike. These lounges offer a casual environment to relax, socialize, and recharge between or after classes. Weekly gatherings bring together students, Commuter Counselors/Admins, Residential Coordinators, and Campus Directors for casual conversation and community building.

Engagement Through Clubs and Off-Campus Activities

Our commuter students are invited to stay after class and fully participate in after-class clubs, with offerings varying by campus. These clubs provide creative, academic, and social outlets for students to explore their interests and meet new friends. Additionally, each commuter will have the opportunity to join two to three off-campus excursions. These may include experiences like a dinner cruise or an end-of-session celebration at Dave & Buster’s—providing even more chances to make lasting memories.

Commitment to Consistency and Growth

Behind the scenes, our team is actively planning and refining. Campus Managers are developing site-specific plans and budgets to support the commuter commitments, ensuring adequate staffing and resources at each location. Once finalized, these enhancements will be reflected on our website and shared widely, reinforcing our commitment to consistency across all campuses.
