Discover Law & Government Summer Programs

Studying law is about much more than learning rules and regulations. It's about understanding how societies work, examining different perspectives and developing the ability to make clear, well-supported arguments.

Precollege law courses can introduce students to subjects such as constitutional law, criminal justice, legal reasoning and the role of government in everyday life.

Through discussions, case studies and collaborative activities, students can practise critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills while exploring some of the issues facing society today.

These experiences can also offer valuable insight into what studying law or government at university might involve.

Explore Law at Georgetown University

For students interested in law, politics and public affairs, Georgetown University offers an exciting setting in Washington, D.C., a city closely connected to the American legal and political systems.

Summer Discovery's Georgetown programmes provide opportunities for students to explore academic interests in an engaging precollege environment.

Studying in the nation's capital can also inspire students to think more deeply about the relationship between law, government and public policy, as well as the different careers available in these fields.

Discover Different Areas of Law

There are many ways to explore an interest in law, and you don't need to know exactly which area appeals to you before getting started.

Some students are drawn to criminal justice or constitutional rights, while others become interested in international relations, business law or the legal questions surrounding emerging technologies.

Exploring a range of topics can help you discover what motivates you and develop skills that are useful across many academic and professional paths.

Depending on the course, learning activities may include debates, legal case analysis, research projects and opportunities to practise presenting arguments.

Make the Most of Your Summer Experience

A precollege programme offers more than an introduction to a subject. It's also an opportunity to meet students with similar interests, build independence and experience a new learning environment.

Working alongside peers from different backgrounds can broaden your perspective and encourage you to approach challenging questions in new ways.

Beyond your studies, organised activities and opportunities to explore your surroundings can help make your summer both enjoyable and memorable.

Take the Next Step Towards Your Future

You don't have to have your future career planned out to start exploring law and government.

A summer programme can help you test your interests, strengthen your academic skills and gain a clearer understanding of the subjects you might want to study further.
