Head to the beach and practice riding waves in this 2-week surfing camp for high school students in Summer Discovery’s UCLA program.
Camp Description
Paddle out, find your balance, and give the next wave a try. Daily trips to the Los Angeles coast make surfing an active way to spend your summer in the water.
In this camp you will practice paddling, standing up on your board, and settling into a stable stance. Exercises and drills help you connect those movements, while time in the surf gives you chances to try them together. Learn to judge a wave’s size, shape, and breaking pattern so you can decide where to position yourself.
Work on timing and board control as you adjust your weight and balance. Ocean safety and surf etiquette are part of the experience, helping you understand how to share the water responsibly. With a beach visit each day, there’s time to keep practicing and enjoy the challenge of learning to ride.

Your Summer at UCLA
UCLA gives high-school students the opportunity to explore an academic interest while experiencing university life in Los Angeles, a city where entertainment, technology, business, science, and culture constantly intersect. The campus has its own community and rhythm while connecting students to a wider environment built around creativity and new ideas.
