Course Description

This class is an introduction into the American legal system, the power of justice, and the importance of the rule of law. Engaging activities will expose students to legal analysis, negotiation, cross examination, research, and simulated and actual trials. From riveting courtroom dramas to decoding the Constitution, get ready for an adventure that will both educate and entertain. Learn basic legal concepts related to procedural law and improve your legal vocabulary while reviewing landmark cases and fascinating stories that have shaped the legal landscape. Students will develop critical-thinking skills as we review high-interest cases from today’s headlines and learn to understand the role of law in society, politics, and international relations.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to explain the key components of the American legal system.
Students will demonstrate proficiency in using basic legal terminology and concepts related to procedural law.
Students will critically analyze landmark cases and current legal issues and form reasoned conclusions based on evidence and legal precedent.
Students will apply legal reasoning, develop persuasive communication skills, and demonstrate an understanding of courtroom procedures.
Students will assess the impact of the law on societal issues, politics, and international relations, and articulate the legal system’s influence on historical and contemporary events.
