Course Description
Abnormal Psychology is a comprehensive course that explores the nature, causes, and treatment of psychological disorders. Students will examine a range of mental health issues, from anxiety and mood disorders to personality and psychotic disorders, through the lens of contemporary psychological theories and empirical research. The course will cover the diagnostic criteria outlined in the DSM-5-TR, delve into the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that contribute to mental illness, and review various modern therapeutic approaches. Through hands-on activities and critical discussions, students will apply concepts to be able to identify and discuss behavioral disorders and proper forms of treatment for individuals dealing with those disorders. This course offers valuable insights into the world of abnormal psychology, equipping students with knowledge that’s not only fascinating but also crucial for those pursuing careers in psychology. At the end of the course, students will be able to identify and define core terminology and concepts of abnormal psychology, analyze and interpret psychological research, and learn how to provide support and assistance to those in need.
