What is College Discovery?

College Discovery is an intensive two-week program that focuses on the college admissions process. It includes SAT or ACT prep classes by The Princeton Review, Essay Writing for the college application, meetings with college admissions, guidance from admissions experts and about a dozen college visits in either the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic or Southern California regions. In lieu of SAT or ACT prep, students entering their senior year may opt for the Advanced Essay Writing and Interviewing Smart course. College Discovery is offered in the three most college-rich areas of the country: Boston @ Northeastern University, Los Angeles @ UCLA and Washington, D.C. @ American University.

What is a typical day like?

Beat the SAT/ACT by The Princeton Review - intense SAT/ACT preparation OR Advanced Essay Writing and Interviewing Smart

Morning Break

College Admissions Smart by The Princeton Review - intensive direction and insight into the college application/admissions process

All-You-Can-Eat Lunch in the University dining hall

One or Two college visits per day including time to tour the campus, meet students and admissions officers.

Who teaches the classes on College Discovery?

All classes are taught by experienced Princeton Review Instructors.

How many colleges will each student visit?

Each student will visit from 10 - 12 different college campuses. This visit will include a campus tour and information session run by the university’'s admissions office and the bookstore.

Who gets to pick the colleges to visit?

Each student will receive the schedule prior to the program. This way the student will get to discuss with their guidance counselor and parents to decide on which ones to visit.

Can I bring my laptop?

You certainly may bring your laptop, but it is not necessary. Most rooms are wired for Internet access. If you do not have a laptop you will have access to a multi-station computer center with laser printers and email access.

What is included in the program fee?

Pretty much everything within the program is included: 3 meals daily, (except on Sunday; brunch and dinner) all classes, college visits and some activity entrance fees. The only things not included are transportation to and from the program, and personal purchases such as extra food, laundry and souvenirs.

Are the athletic facilities open to College Discovery?

Yes they are available on all three campuses: UCLA, American and Northeastern all have state-of-the-art fitness centers that you will have access to.

Where will I live on campus?

On all campuses; UCLA, American and Northeastern, you will live with all other College Discovery students in air-conditioned residence halls.

How are roommates picked?

You can pick your own or we will assign you 1 or 2 roommates. Most students attend alone, meeting people and making friends at College Discovery is easy. You will submit a Personal Profile form. This form helps us learn about your likes and dislikes, personality traits, interests and sleeping habits. We use this information to match you with roommate(s) with similar interests, and age. Mutual roommate requests are honored.
