Engage with a global network of peers through our online community. Students have access to our global community for 6 weeks during the summer. They can engage with students both in their session and in other sessions of Summer Discovery Online. The goal is to engage and connect students from around the globe in an online community of learning, social interaction, and personal growth.

  • 3-4 hours of optional daily activities – both live and pre-recorded – foster engagement outside the classroom
  • Meet new friends from around the globe.
  • Trivia night, guided yoga classes, and coffee breaks with new friends are all ways to connect.

I am excited about bringing the unique Summer Discovery experience to Summer Discovery Online. This is our first year planning for a virtual campus, but we've got 40+ years of on-campus experience that we are translating into our virtual campus! I cannot wait to engage student virtually across the country and globe.

Virtual Campus

Our team of community specialists are experts at creating fun and engaging activities. We've been doing this on-campus for more than 40 years, and now we are using our expertise to build a "virtual campus". So what exactly is a virtual campus? And how does it work?

The Summer Discovery Virtual Campus is powered by our Learning Management System (LMS) - Canvas. Consider this the one-stop-shop or the student union. Once students are logged into the LMS, they'll have access to their course work, community activities, live and pre-recorded workshops and sessions, resources, and more. More than 30% of colleges and universities use Canvas, so this is a great opportunity for high school students to get a preview of college coursework.

But enough about technology. Let's talk about FUN! These last few months have taught us that online communities can be robust, fun, and engaging. Some of the activities we have planned include:

  • Video game nights with peers - led by students for students
  • Codenames board game - online
  • Thursday night trivia sessions - brush up on your pop culture knowledge
  • Lunch and Learns - think of hanging out with friends and learning over lunch
  • Group Guided Workouts - try a new workout class from home
