2 week sessions open to students completing grades 9, 10, 11, & 12.

Tuition includes: Term fees, academic and enrichment program, use of facilities, housing, 3 meals daily while on campus (2 meals on weekends), activities and trips, blanket, pillow, and linens.

Not included: Application fee, $70 student ID/technology fee, airfare, airport transfers (available for $40 each way from SCE and $125 each way from JFK), ​overnight stay at a JFK airport hotel on June 30 for an additional $125, class materials, course supplements, meals eaten off campus, medical expenses, laundry, souvenirs, and personal spending money.

At Summer Discovery Penn State, we help you prepare for your transition from high school to college. Our pre-college program combines academics, athletics, and activities to give high school students a well-rounded introduction to college life.

A day in the life

Every day at Penn State is unique, Here is a preview of what you can expect on campus

  • 8.30am Roll out of bed and head to the dining hall where you can enjoy eggs, pastries, fruit, and more on your way to class.
  • 9.30am Grab your notebook and pen (or your laptop) and don’t be late for class.
  • 11.30am What’s one great thing about college? Long lunch breaks. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends, catch up on homework, or do some laps at the McCoy Natatorium.
  • 1.00pm Back to class, but not always in the classroom. Some classes involve hands-on experiences and you may take field trips on and off campus.
  • 3.00pm Your summer, your way. Sign up for the activities you want to do. Choose from sports, shopping, local attractions, museums, and more.
  • 6.00pm Dinner time. Enjoy the unlimited portions at the state-of-the-art dining center. Be sure to save room for ice cream from Penn State's own Creamery!
  • 8.00pm Outdoor movies. Bowling. Hiking. Golfing. You will never forget the memories you make with your friends at Penn State.
  • 11.00pm Order a pizza, watch a movie, or play video games in the lounge. After a full day, it’s nice to relax with friends.

Arrival and departure days

You must arrive and depart on the specified arrival and departure days only. If this is not possible, you must arrive the day after arrival day or depart the day before departure day. There are no rooms available at our residence hall outside of the dates of the program.

2-week program: Arrive July 1, depart July 14


Booking Travel

Our travel agency, Musiker Travel, makes all flight arrangements for students from North America upon request. If you live outside of North America, you will receive instructions for making your own flight arrangements. Students who are being driven to campus will receive directions during the spring. 

Students flying into JFK must arrive on June 30 between 2pm and 6pm. Summer Discovery provides an overnight stay at a JFK airport hotel on June 30 for an additional $125, dinner and breakfast are included. Summer Discovery staff will transfer students to the hotel, stay the night and escort the group to campus on an air conditioned bus. 

Students may be dropped off at the JFK airport hotel on July 1 before 9:30am. Summer Discovery staff will escort the group from the hotel to campus on an air conditioned bus. 

Airport Transfers

We provide escorted transfers to/from University Park Airport (SCE) for $40 each way, or to/from John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) for $125 each way on all arrival and departure days. Staff meet incoming flights in baggage claim (or outside of customs for international flights) and assist with departures.

Students from the New York Metropolitan area are welcome to join our round-trip transfers from/to JFK on all arrival and departure days.
