This course is designed to help students develop critical thinking and public speaking skills through presentations, speeches, and academic debates. Public Speaking & Debate will explore what it means to speak well publicly and will provide students with tools to become a clear, creative, concise and confident communicator. This class also focuses on the finer points of public and conversational speaking: how to critically form and support an opinion, and speech writing techniques.
Who Should Take This Course? This course is suitable for students who want to hone their public speaking skills and learn how to present their arguments in a coherent, considered and structured way.
Highlights Students will be able to recognize and use proper eye contact, sentence structure, projection, and confidence. Students will be able to analyze different speech techniques for live debates and team communication.
Courses & Academies This class is one of our UCLA courses. Courses are single classes that are taken in the morning or afternoon. Students who take our courses select two courses to take during each session. Students will select a morning and afternoon course. If a student is attending a 6-week session, they'll select two courses per session 3-week session for a total of 4 courses during their 6 weeks. Generally, courses can not be combined with academies since academies meet both morning and afternoon.
