Creative Writing
This course will explore and experiment with the tools of fiction writing. In the context of a variety of genres, students will examine literary conventions as well as the writing techniques and tools essential to effective writing and editing. Topics will include character, plot, setting, narrative time, dialogue, point-of-view, voice, conflict resolution, and metaphorical language. Students will begin to develop the critical skills that will allow them to read like writers and understand, on a technical level, how accomplished creative writing is produced. Course Objectives: Students will be able to identify and define writing terminology and concepts. Students will be able to demonstrate proper creative writing techniques. Students will be able to develop their own original short story.
