Foundations of Psychology

In this course, we start to explore various aspects that both explain and impact the human experience. We will gain an understanding of ways people function socially, cognitively and emotionally. We will review both classical psychological theories and recent research findings that aim to explain our reality.

Who Should Take This Course? This course is suitable for curious students who wonder about human behavior and want to understand how our knowledge about humans has evolved.

Shaden Powell, M.A., M.Ed.

Shaden Powell is passionate about teaching and learning. She values and prioritizes the creation of a space that welcomes the exchange of ideas and perspectives and immensely enjoys being part of students’ exciting journey of learning fueled by abundant curiosity. Shaden’s teaching experience ranges from  leading academic workshops focused on cognitive processes of learning, the intersection of anxiety related challenges and the infusion of mindfulness practices to facilitating mental health therapy groups addressing a wide range of mental health challenges in outpatient facilities, homeless shelters and multicultural centers to both children and adults as well as teaching and assisting in the teaching of university courses to undergraduate and graduate students in the following courses: Introduction to Developmental Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Foundations of Counseling, Child Language, Foundations of Developmental Psychology, and Psychological Methods and Statistics. 

Courses & Academies This class is one of our UT Austin courses. Courses are single classes that are taken in the morning or afternoon. Students who take our courses select two courses to take during the session. Students will select a morning and afternoon course. Students will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Texas at Austin.
