We’re hearing from many families who are as excited as we are about a summer full of new friends, activities, trips, memories, and experiences. In anticipation of another successful summer, we wanted to share some information about what you can look forward to during the first few days of your program.
We’re Excited to Meet and Greet You
Based on the information you provided on your transportation form, we know exactly where to meet each of you. Most students are picked up at the airport - we meet you in baggage claim/outside customs and wear bright blue Summer Discovery/Discovery Internships staff shirts and hold signs so that you can find us easily. Then, we help you on to our chartered buses which take you directly to campus for check-in and orientation. A few students are dropped off on campus - we greet you upon arrival to campus and assist you with check-in. For the address and more information about the meeting location on campus, please check your Final Information Bulletin located in your My Discovery account.
When you arrive at our dorm, you will receive your room key, roommate assignment, and course schedule. Please make sure that your Personal Profile is complete now so that we may assign you to a compatible roommate. Also, be sure to be prepared for class by bringing a notebook, pens, and bookbag/backpack.
Orientation, Icebreakers, and Your Resident Counselor Group
On the first day of our program, you will participate in a thorough orientation that will help you get to know the campus and the home area. You will also have the opportunity to meet your Resident Counselor (RC) and RC Group who you will join to do select activities to facilitate meeting many other students on our program. Since the majority of you are arriving to campus without knowing anyone else, we have icebreakers and other great opportunities for you to make friends quickly.
First Day of Class/Internship
Students, we will walk you to your classes on the first day. You will receive a syllabus with your class schedule of what to expect during the term. Interns, we will assist you in getting safely to your internship. You will have an opportunity to meet with your company mentor and get familiar with the company and what to expect from your 4 week hands-on internship.
We’re ready and prepared to make you feel comfortable, familiar, and safe from the moment you join us until you arrive back home following a summer full of learning, memories, and fun.
