We celebrated the start of the final week for our four week students on Monday by splitting up for RC group activities. We had a wide range of activities from a spa night, a movie night, a sunset beach visit, a soccer tournament and various others events! On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we had crafternoon and bingo, a capture the flag tournament and other scattered activities. Students also had the opportunity to catch the golden hour in a new way; on a cruise! Our sunset cruise tooks took students up and down the Santa Barbara coast in order to catch the perfect view of the sunset. We satisfied our sweet tooth on Thursday evening with ice pops and smores on the back patio.
Anticipation was high on Friday morning as our SERA students filled the lobby of Santa Cruz Hall dressed to impress. It was finally their time to present the research they had been working on the past four weeks. We are so proud of all the hardwork and dedication we have seen in these students! Our Marine Science students also had the pleasure of visiting Knapps Castle!
Friday was an emotional day for many of us here at Summer Discovery UCSB. Many of us enjoyed our last lunch at the DLG, our final bike ride through Isla Vista or a memorable stroll through the halls of Santa Cruz. Together we gathered for one final time for our Annual Talent show, where we heard some comedy, poetry, singing, piano and even saw an amazing color guard show. After returning home, our four week students congregated in the formal lounge for a goodbye slideshow. Though full of tearful goodbyes, our students and staff alike are grateful for the opportunities and lifelong connections that summer discovery has brought to them.
All of us here at UCSB would like to thank our students for an incredible four weeks. We are so proud of all your accomplishments and look forward to hearing about your success in the future!
