UT Austin News- July 9

Hi Summer Discovery Friends and Families!

We just wrapped up our last weekend together and finally entering our last week here at Summer Discovery. It’s not over yet though! Here are some highlights from this weekend that are worth remembering.

On Friday, all of Summer Discovery got to drive down to the beautiful and historic San Antonio, Texas! This U.S. tourist landmark is filled with enchantment, discovery, culture and different experiences for all of our students. Students had the choice between attending Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park or the walking around the infamous San Antonio Riverwalk area. At Six Flags, students zipped and zoomed on some of the world’s scariest roller coasters such as Wonder Woman’s: Lasso of Truth roller coaster to the award winning Iron Rattler! Amongst all the roller coasters, students were able to indulge in your theme park favorites such as funnel cakes, games, frozen lemonade and good vibes with friends. Our other students got to visit the iconic San Antonio, home to the Alamo. This historic site was featured in the Battle of the Alamo in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, and is now a museum in the Alamo Plaza Historic District. Afterwards students got to explore the San Antonio Riverwalk, eat, and shop along all the cultural hotspot.

Then on Saturday we got to explore more of what Austin has to offer! Students explored Barton Springs, The Domain Shopping Center, The Austin Zoo & Sanctuary, and finally ending the night with an all group movie night! Barton Springs surely is one of the most refreshing summer hotspots has to offer. Right on the edge of the city, students got great views all while taking a dip in the pool. We also got to venture out to the Austin Zoo & Sanctuary, responsible for the rehabilitation and preservation of more than 300 different animal species! Through all the Saturday fun, we once again had an all group Summer Discovery night watching Hollywood’s latest blockbusters. Students got to choose between Uncle Drew, The First Purge, and Antman & the Wasp! This was truly once again a hit!

Wrapping things up on Sunday, we once again prepared for class on Monday with more a laid back day to prepare for the last week. Students once again got to explore the trendy South Congress St, an area full of boutiques with the latest fashion and some of the best restaurants in the nation. Some of our students also had a need for speed and got to check out one of the only Formula One race track’s here in the nation. Luckily, students got a glimpse of what racing was like by watching a closed race and also got a behind the scenes look! Last but not least, we also wrapped up the night with a roller skating session!

Weekend 2 is over and now we begin our last week together, we’re beyond excited to see the students develop their friendships further and getting comfortable with being able to explore the many aspects of Austin Texas! We have one more blog coming out this week, so make sure you keep an eye out on that.

With Longhorn Pride,

The UT Austin Team
