Our first weekend at Summer Discovery UCSB was action packed to say the least! Our Marine Science students kicked off their Friday morning with a nature hike to learn about the delicate ecosystems of Santa Barbara. Shortly after this, we took all remaining groups of students to K-Mart to purchase last minute necessities for the remainder of their trip. We finished the night all together by showing off our skills (good and bad) at the Roller Skating rink!
After breakfast on Saturday, students eagerly lined the hallways of Santa Cruz Hall for the busses to Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm! From Space Mountain and GhostRider, to the tea cups and bumper cars, there was something for everyone at either park. Our Disneyland group left just after the spectacular fireworks show, and both groups were happily greeted with a Pizza check-in upon their return!
On Sunday, some students chose to shop the bargain sales at over 100 retailers in the Carmarillo Outlets. Others decided to visit the MOXI (Museum of Exploration and Innovation) Museum which features various hands on and interactive exhibits, right in the heart of Santa Barbara. In addition to our Marine Science students, few students opted to volunteer their time for a Beach Clean-up to keep the beautiful beaches of Santa Baraba litter free. Now that our students are aquainted with the landscape of UCSB, they were also welcome to explore Isla Vista and Santa Barabara's lively State Street.
Despite the fun filled weekend behind us, we are not done yet! Check back for updates regarding our 4th of July "Gaucho Games", our Festival Under the Stars and our Shop/Explore LA trips!
