UCLA: An Amazing Weekend at Disney, Manhattan Beach and So Much More

We kicked off our first weekend here at UCLA in spectacular fashion.

Friday our students had the day off from class, but not from fun. We spent the day choosing from a wide range of activities. Many wanted to head down for some shopping at Rodeo Drive or Abbott Kinney. Some were more interested in action and adventure, specifically in the form of Go-Karts at Speedzone or Family Fun Center. Then there were students who just wanted to laugh at Comedy Sportz. The night capped off down at Westwood Village’s famous movie Theaters. It is always amazing to step into one of those classic theaters with the valet and red velvet rugs and chairs. It such a great experience to sit in the same theater that hosts so many famous Hollywood premiers. They have that true Hollywood movie feel and the students got to pick between two summer blockbusters in Jurassic World or the Incredibles 2.

Saturday, we split up into three different groups seeking three different things. The biggest chunk of students, 9 busses full to be exact, wanted nothing more then to see Disneyland. We arrived just in time for the famous Disney parade and hung out with Mickey and the gang late into night. Disney however, was not the choice for everyone and some were excited to spend the “I Love LA Day” exploring what the city had to offer. They caught a LA Dodgers baseball game and got to explore the Universal CityWalk. Fun in the sun and Manhattan Beach were instore for the last but not least group. The sun seekers started out at Manhattan Beach, for some tasty waves, beach volleyball, football, sunbathing and a little beach town shopping. After heading back home for a quick rest and shower everyone headed back out to Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. Some wanted to relax and check out another movie, while others wanted to just cruise the street seeing some spectacular performers and popping into some great stores. This blogger was particularly excited for some $5.90 v-neck t-shirts.

Sunday is our day to relax and most of us took full advantage by sleeping in. We did however have some early risers who wanted to head down to the pool or Wooden center to catch a work out. Students went to Putt Putt golf as well as some other activies, but a good amount just wanted to catch the Summer Discovery Westwood Bus so they could get some In-N-Out.
