While we were sad to say “so long” to our 3-week STEM Academy students on Friday, our 4-week research students had an adventure-filled weekend! On Saturday we had fun in the sun at the Boulder Reservoir Beach. The day included kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. During the evening, students watched movies, went shopping and caught up on research. Today we explored Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs! Our first stop was Cave of the Winds, where we had a guided tour of the second highest elevated cave in the United States. It covered 15 rooms, half a mile of concrete walkways, and 196 stairs while teaching us about the history and geology of the cave. The beautiful rock formations did not end there. Our second stop was The Garden of the Gods Park. The park is a registered National Natural Landmark full of dramatic views and 300' towering sandstone rock formations, all against a backdrop of the snow-capped Pikes Peak. After our stroll through the magnificent red rocks, students had dinner in “Old” Colorado Springs. Time to rest up for our final week at CU Boulder!
