Summer Discovery Michigan is gearing up for an amazing weekend ahead following our first week of classes and activities!
Classroom events this week ranged from presentations in American Government about current events, to a peer-review activity in the Essay Writing class, and cherry pie baking in the Cooking and Baking class. Overall, students have commented that not only are they are learning a great deal of information in their classes, but they are also learning new ways of thinking from different perspectives.
On Monday and Tuesday, students participated in a wide variety of fun activities. This week students went to Zingerman’s deli (home the most famous sandwiches in Michigan), raced around in bumper cars at Whirly Ball, practiced their aim in laser tag, and indulged in Ann Arbor’s best ice cream at Michigan Creamery, tours of the Big House, the football stadium for the University of Michigan, a t-shirt tye-dying event, a trip to the Clueless Escape Room, a soccer tournament, and a trip to AirTime Trampoline Park, among many other activities.
On Wednesday a group of students toured the Big House, the football stadium for University of Michigan. They were able to get a view of the stadium from the press box, see the team’s locker rooms, and go out on the field to throw around the pigskin. Other activities that day included Putt-Putt mini-golf, a nature walk through the Arboretum, and a lively evening of karaoke with sing-alongs to everyone’s favorite tunes. That evening also featured an all-group presentation from University of Michigan Admissions and Collegewise. Students learned about admission criteria for the University of Michigan, and gained advice on the college application process.
Tomorrow we will launch the weekend’s activities with evening trips to bowling or Zap Zone. We are keeping an eye on the weather this weekend in Ann Arbor, as the increasing chance of thunderstorms may alter our plans. Check back in on Sunday to hear about what we did this weekend!
