No, literally... the summer is heating up... today it was 87 degrees and tomorrow it will be 91 degrees.
Summer Discovery Michigan is gearing up for an amazing weekend after a productive first week of classes!
Classroom topics this week ranged from discussions in Global Leadership and Social Change about how personality types relate to effective leadership, to a lecture in Sports Management about the ways gym companies market themselves. Our students had the opportunity to interact with one another and their professors both in and outside of the classroom, and the Sociology and Society course took a field trip to the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Additionally, the Global Leadership and Social Change Academy took a field trip to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library.
Every day after classes, students have been participating in a wide variety of fun activities. On Monday, students participated in a soccer tournament and others went to Michigan Creamery, a local ice cream shop. On Tuesday, several students toured the Big House, the football stadium at the University of Michigan, others went to Whirly Ball, and others went to AirTime Trampoline Park, and some ended their night with an outdoor movie on the back lawn. On Wednesday, a group of students went to the Clueless Escape Room, others went on a shopping spree at Briarwood Mall, and some participated in Karaoke in the residence hall. On Thursday, students went canoeing, or participated in laser tag, and others participated in a basketball tournament.
Tomorrow we will launch the weekend’s activities with trips to either Cedar Point Amusement Park or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On Saturday afternoon, students will pick between Sportway (go-karting, mini-golf, and batting cages), Berry Picking, the Henry Ford Museum, or Rolling Hills Waterpark. Saturday night, we will all be heading to the movies where students have an option between four different movies to enjoy. Finally, on Sunday students have the options of going to the Toledo Zoo, Birmingham, MI, Zap Zone Laser Tag, the Motown Museum, or golfing at the University of Michigan golf course. This weekend is going to be a blast, so be sure to check back in for pictures and more blog updates!
Next week some of our highlighted activities include a University of Michigan campus tour, the Toledo Mudhens baseball game, a trip to Silver Lake to celebrate the 4th of July, a hypnotist, roller skating, bowling, and a Detroit Tiger’s Game!
