Michigan: A Weekend of Homeruns, Rollercoasters, and Rock and Roll

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through our second session here at Summer Discovery Michigan! The students have called the Mosher-Jordan Residence Hall home for one week now, and there is definitely a pervasive sense of everyone feeling comfortable and settled. It is now a daily occurrence for the halls to be alive with activity, socializing, and laughter. However, this weekend found the students out away from the residence hall quite a bit, as our schedules were jam packed with exciting activities from morning till night.

On Friday evening after classes, students had the option of choosing between striking down the pins at bowling or playing arcade games, laser tag, and mini golf at Zap Zone.  Saturday afternoon, students enjoyed an array of options including the  the Henry Ford Museum, AirTime Trampoline Park, and the Skatin’ Station roller rink. At the Henry Ford Museum, we experienced a blast to the past viewing antique automobiles, airplanes, and engines. Meanwhile, those who journeyed to Skatin’ Station cruised around the rink under disco lights with some groovy tunes as their soundtrack. Others jumped around, playing basketball, and played dodgeball versus the RCs. Saturday night, students had the choice between going to the Detroit Tigers baseball game versus the Boston Red Sox, or going to the movies to see either Mamma Mia 2 or AntMan.

Sunday’s big trips involved a choice between travelling to the world famous Cedar Point amusement park, or to the equally famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At Cedar Point students took in the beautiful views of Lake Erie, zipped and zoomed on dizzying roller coasters, and won an abundance of prizes from game booths. Rain or shine, our students had fun and rode all of the rollercoasters. For those who just want to rock, the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in Cleveland provided glimpses into the lives and careers of rock’s most prominent artists from The Beatles to Nirvana. The trip did not end there though; the night capped off with games and great food at Dave and Busters.

Overall we had an amazing weekend, and we can’t wait to jump right into week two and see what other excitement lies in store. Thank you for keeping up with our adventures, we look forward to updating you later in the week!
