Fun in Boston

These last couple of days have been quite an adventure here at Summer Discovery/Discovery Internships Boston!

On Friday, we enjoyed a fun day exploring the local colleges. Our Summer Discovery students had the opportunity to visit Harvard and MIT, two prominent colleges with beautiful campuses, which allowed for our tours to be both informative and instagram worthy. The day ended with a little bit of magic! Students enjoyed a presentation by an illusionist who wowed our students with mind-bending illusions and tricks. A couple of our students even had the opportunity to participate in the show as well.

Saturday was another jam-packed day from beginning to end. We started off the day with some activities around Boston. Students shopped at Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market and explored the history of the area on the Freedom Trail. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market provided a relaxer for the shoppers on our trip who enjoyed popular stores like Coach, Ghirardelli, Urban Outfitters, and restaurants like Boston Chowda Co. for some local cuisine. Other students trekked the Freedom Trail, a 2-mile walking tour that introduces people to 16 historical sites in Boston. Students enjoyed hearing from guides dressed in colonial garbs as they were led along the trail.

As the afternoon rolled around, students were split into 3 different groups to explore the Museum of Science, The Institute of Contemporary Art, or the Aquarium. At the Museum of Science students looked at science up close and explore concepts through the interactive exhibits. At the Art Museum, students got to look at a variety of different types of modern art, including an exhibit called “Black Radical Women: 1965 - 1985”. At the Aquarium, students enjoyed the Boston marine life and observed the tanks that were connected to the harbors. Finally, we ended the night with a soccer game at Gillette Stadium where students watched the New England Revolution take on the Seattle Sounders. While the score stayed tied at zero at the end of the night, students still enjoyed the excitement of the game and the adrenaline of a going to a live sporting event.

On Sunday we wrapped up the weekend with another exciting day as our students took a trip to New Hampshire to spend a day at Hampton Beach. Students were quick to take advantage of their time there by walking along the boardwalk to get a snack, setting up a quick game of football, and laying out in the sun. It was exciting to see all the students enjoying the New England waters and hanging out with some new friends. Sunday was a relaxing day for all our students, but not one that would easily be forgotten. Students reminisced on their beach day on the ride all the way back to Boston.

Check back with us again on Thursday to learn more about what we have planned for the week!  And don’t forget to take a look at our photo album to keep up to date with all that is happening.
