Earth Day 2018

Earth Day 2018

April 22 is Earth Day and Spring is the perfect reminder of how important the health of our planet is. Do you recycle? Re-use? Think about your eco footprint?

Earth Day is a good day to start thinking about how to make our world greener, cleaner, and more beautiful.

According to Hertz, the international rental car company, the Top 10 “Greenest Cities” in the USA are:

  1. Portland, Oregon  (was that a surprise to anyone??)
  2. Homer, Alaska
  3. New Orleans, Louisiana
  4. Seattle, Washington
  5. Greenville, South Carolina
  6. San Francisco, California
  7. Atlanta, Georgia
  8. Austin, Texas
  9. Boulder, Colorado
  10. Burlington, Vermont

Summer Discovery is proud to have 2 campuses in the Top Ten List with UT Austin, and CU Boulder.

Austin boasts 227 miles of trails and 20,000 acres of public green space. Austin is also home of the largest bat colony in the U.S. with 1.5 million bats that live under the Congress Avenue Bridge and Summer Discovery students visit them every summer.

Boulder Colorado has 45,000 acres of unspoiled nature, making it the perfect place for Summer Discovery students to go hiking and exploring after classes in STEM Academies

The Pearl Street Mall is pedestrian friendly and is home of an annual Earth Day celebration that lasts all week.
