Around Campus, Around Town

With over 70 miles of beaches and average temperature of 75°F, San Diego is the place to be this summer. San Diego and La Jolla offer a wealth of activities, entertainment and natural beauty. these include the world famous San Diego Zoo in historic Balboa Park, Torrey Pines Preserve, Mission Bay, the downtown Gaslamp Quarter, concerts and pro sporting events. To the east, the Laguna Mountains and Borrego Desert offer boundless beauty, hiking and camping. Summer Discovery students can partake in the best of all worlds, with the civilized metropolis of San Diego 12 miles away and the jet-set village of La Jolla (population 30,000) at our doorstep.

Night at the Movies First run entertainment with Multiplex theatre choices.

UCSD Student Center/Price Center The Student Center features the Natural Foods Co-op, General Store, Groundworks Books and ATM machines. Price Center features a Food Court (Wendy’s, Round Table Pizza, Woks Up, Subway, Jamba Juice, Expresso Royal), the UCSD Bookstore, billiards and game rooms, and a Post Office.

University Towne Center/Ice Skating Impressive open-air shopping/recreation complex with 155 specialty stores, restaurants and an ice skating rink.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography Opened in 1992 the country’s largest museum of oceanography has more than 30 tanks of up to 55,000 gallons, an outdoor Tidal Pool and more, adjacent to UCSD.

Beaches, Beaches, Beaches Miles of Pacific Ocean beaches await us just a few minutes from campus. Free van shuttles available.

Torrey Pines State Park Reserve remains one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast. 2,000 acres of protected forests, lagoons, beaches and hiking trails.

Viva Las Vegas Weekend (2 days/1 night)

Our chartered motorcoaches depart from campus to the city of a million lights. In the last decade, Las Vegas has been transformed into a family destination and a paradise for teens. We’ll see the dancing fountains at The Bellagio, meander through the canals at The Venetian, and catch the volcanic explosion at the Mirage. We check out M&M Chocolate World, get college tees and boxers at UNLV, unlimited plays at Sega GameWorks, and top it off with 65 mph thrills on the New York, New York roller coaster. Includes all activities and admissions per itinerary, all meals, motorcoach transportation to Las Vegas and air-conditioned residence hall accommodations with private bathrooms at UNLV.

San Diego Zoo

Spanning 100 cage-free acres in lush Balboa Park, the “world’s best zoo” houses over 4,000 animals in natural enclosures aimed at replicating the species’ home environment. See lowland gorillas in
a grassy slope complete with computer generated thunderstorms or walk through a rain forest filled with over 100 animals.

Most Los Angeles attractions are only 1-2 hours away, a perfect way to spend the day!

Disneyland Unlimited rides and fun at one of the world’s best theme parks.

Universal Studios/Universal CityWalk Still the world’s largest television and movie studio. Also enjoy CityWalk, with exciting shops, restaurants, movie theaters, attractions and more.

Beverly Hills 90210 Time for strolling, shopping and sightseeing.

Knott’s Soak City Water Park Oceans of fun await you with 32 acres of water attractions and sun, including 16 different waterslides featuring Speed Slides, Giant Aqua Tubes, Chutes Double Tubes, Body Slides and more. Enjoy Otay Bay, a half million gallon wave pool, or relax and catch some rays on grassy lawns and lazy lagoons.
