As a member of the “Big Ten” Athletic Conference, the University of Michigan features some of the world’s best athletic and recreational facilities. The University devotes 225 acres (more area than many entire college campuses) for recreation, including the Crisler Basketball Arena and the awesome 107,000+ seat Michigan Stadium, the largest on-campus football stadium in America. The Michigan Wolverines’ athletic prowess in football and basketball is legendary. Summer Discovery students enjoy full U-M recreation privileges and can choose from a superb selection of facilities and activities for practicing and playing at no charge (except where noted). In addition, just outside of Ann Arbor is beautiful countryside with dozens of lakes for swimming, boating and outdoor recreation.
U-M’s world-class indoor facility has volleyball and badminton courts, two walleyball courts, 4 full basketball courts, 6 squash courts, 11 racquetball courts, an elevated 1/8-mile track, saunas, free-weight rooms, and dozens of stairmasters, life cycles, weight machines and other conditioning equipment. In addition to unlimited access to this facility 6 days a week, Summer Discovery has exclusive use of the entire building 1 evening a week. Our 3-on-3 basketball and 5-on-5 volleyball tournaments always draw a crowd.
Adjacent to our residence hall, this large field is ideal for soccer, football and ultimate frisbee intramurals. The 1/4-mile track is popular for jogging, power-walking and roller-blading.

Golf Students can play the par 68 Huron Hills and par 72 Leslie Park golf courses for an additional fee.
3 WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR RECREATION/ATHLETIC PROGRAM:
- Drop-in participation: Informal, non-organized participation including pick-up games, tennis with a friend, working out at the CCRB, and recreational swimming, to name a few.
- Organized intramurals, tournaments and events: Our recreation co-ordinator and our RC's organize co-ed intramurals in several sports, 3-on-3 basketball, tennis tournaments, canoe trips and more.
- Sports Plus: Students who desire intensive individual and/or team instruction from qualified coaches can participate in our comprehensive Sports Plus programs for: tennis, basketball, golf, sports conditioning and fitness. (supplemental fee)
Students who wish to extend their participation beyond the regular recreation and athletic program may choose to participate in one or more Sports Plus offerings. Instruction is given by top college coaches, high school coaches, collegiate athletes and instructors on a regular basis throughout the program. Classes are organized through U-Move Fitness at the CCRB, Central Campus Recreation Building. Sports Plus is available in the following sports/activities:
This class is for strong advanced players who are proficient in all strokes, volleys and serves. Class will focus on court drills, coach analysis and match play/tournaments. Meets for 1 hour, 2 times a week in small groups. Tryouts determine proper ability placement. Fee: $200 for 3-weeks/$150 for 2-weeks
Under the direction of U-M Basketball Coaches and/or players. Michigan Wolverine Assistant Coaches and varsity players help you perfect your game with drills, conditioning, strategy sessions, and extensive scrimmage play for all abilities. The program culminateswith a game in the famed 10,000 seat Crisler Arena, home of the Wolverines basketball team. Meets twice weekly for 11/2 hours. Fee: $150 for 3-weeks/$100 for 2-weeks
Cardioblast is a high-intensity cardiovascular workout in the style of conventional high/low impact aerobics. Easy-to-follow moves to the sound of fast-paced contemporary dance music make this class a fun but effective tool for weight control. Cardioblast is ideal for fat-burning as well as for strengthening and improving the cardiovascular system. Typical Class: 10 min-warm-up, 35 min-High-Energy cardio, 5 min-cool down, 10 min-Floor work mostly abdominal strengthening. Meets twice weekly for 1 hour. Fee: $100 for 3-weeks/$75 for 2-weeks
This super circuits class is great for all fitness levels. During the circuit, we mix the use of machines and free weight exercises with basic low-high impact cardio moves for a really great workout. Typical class: 8-10 min warm-up/stretch, 35-45 min circuit work, 5-8 min cool down/stretch. Meets twice weekly for 1 hour. Fee: $100 for 3-weeks/$75 for 2-weeks
GOAL!! Learn to shoot, score and much more. Improve your knowledge and skill level of the most popular sport in the world. This program is coached by qualified soccer coaches at the incredible Fuller Park and Soccer facility with over 10 fields. You will engage in game strategy, playing and practice time. Fee: $150 for 3-weeks/$100 for 2-weeks
