Northeastern University boasts several fantastic athletic facilities, the highlight of which is the gleaming new Marino Center. Summer Discovery students enjoy full Northeastern recreation privileges, at no extra charge (except where noted).
Marino Center With its stunning architecture and state-of-the-art fitness and recreation amenities, the 81,000 square-foot Marino Center will get your feet moving and your heart thumping. The newest of Northeastern’s many athletic facilities, The Marino Center is the hub for recreation at Northeastern: intramural and club sports, drop-in recreation, wellness and group exercise programs. The fitness floor offers a variety of exercise equipment, including stairclimbers, treadmills, upright and recumbent exercise bikes, cross-country ski machines, rowing ergometers, elliptical climbers, and even a Treadwall that simulates rock climbing. A 3,800 square-foot multipurpose room is used for aerobics classes and martial arts clubs. The gymnasium is comprised of three basketball courts that can be used for volleyball and badminton. A state-of-the-art resistance training area contains 42 free-weight stations and 40 pieces of selectorized weight machines. There is also a fully-equipped free weight room. A three lane suspended track is available for either walking or jogging. The first floor of the Marino Center has cafés and a food market for socializing.
Cabot Center Across the street from the Marino Center is the Cabot Center which houses four racquetball/Wally ball courts, three indoor tennis courts, an indoor track, indoor soccer field, and indoor driving range.

The Badger and Rosen SquashBusters Facility Has eight state-of-the-art squash courts, saunas, workout stations and a spectacular view of the Boston skyline.
1. Drop-in participation Informal, non-organized participation including pick-up games, tennis with a friend, working out at the Marino Center, Cabot Center, or recreational swimming, just to name a few.
2. Organized intramurals, tournaments and events Our recreation coordinator and our RC’s organize co-ed intramurals in several sports, 3-on-3 basketball, 5-on-5 volleyball, and more.
3. Sports Plus Students who desire intensive individual and/or team instruction from qualified instructors and pros can participate in our comprehensive Sports Plus programs for: tennis, basketball, personal training, sports conditioning and fitness, and more. (supplemental fee)
Students who wish to extend their participation beyond the regular recreation and athletic program may choose to participate in a Sports Plus offering. Instruction is given by top college instructors, coaches, collegiate athletes and high school coaches on a regular basis throughout the program. Note: Curriculum D and E students cannot enroll in Sports Plus, except for Group Fitness classes.
Tennis/Group Lessons
For beginners or advanced players, this intensive tennis course offers highly personalized instruction, a conditioning program, strategy sessions, and supervised play. Meets twice a week for 1 hour. Fee: $195
Basketball
Concentrated basketball program emphasizing individual skills, game strategy, playing and practice time. Meets twice a week for 1 1/2 hours working with Northeastern instructors and players, plus additional game time is available at the Marino Center. Fee: $150
Sports Conditioning and Weight-Lifting
Under the excellent supervision of qualified trainers, a program will be developed for your own abilities using a variety of free weights, Nautilus, and the latest state-of-the-art Cybex and Lido equipment. Additional aerobic machine work rounds out your program. Meets twice weekly for 1 hour. Fee: $175
Personal Training
Highly individualized conditioning with your own private instructor, developing a program that includes free weights, nautilus, Cybex and Lido with additional aerobic training using Stairmasters, Nordic tracks, rowing machines and life-cycles. Meets twice weekly for 1 hour. Fee: $295
Basic Self Defense
Learn basic self defense techniques, get fit, and gain confidence. Classes meet twice a week for 60 minutes. Fee: $150
Group Fitness
The following classes are complimentary and are included in your Marino Center/Recreation membership. Classes must be reserved online and are subject to change.
High/Low Aerobics
Aero-Sculpt: (60 min) This class offers the best of both worlds. It combines Fatburn with Total Body Sculpting for a fun 30 minute Hi/Lo workout as well as a challenging 30 minute muscle conditioning portion.
Muscle Conditioning
Abs Only: (30 min) This class offers exercises designed to define, tone and strengthen the abdomen and lower back. This core workout is fun, challenging, and effective.
Total Body Sculpting(60 min) Experience this challenging and dynamic whole body muscle conditioning class using dumbbells, bands, tubes, and body bars as resistance tools.
Cardiobox Classes
Cardiobox PLUS: (60 min) This class will knock you out! This invigorating workout includes combinations of punches and kicks while also incorporating muscle conditioning for a total body workout.
Power Cycle
Cycle 45: (45 min) This group cycling class is designed for all fitness levels. It involves various cycling drills that offer an exhilarating cardiovascular workout.
Specialty Classes
Funk: (60 min) This non-stop dance class is filled with explosive moves and exhilarating choreography that challenges your rhythm. If you love to dance and workout, this class if for you.
Pilates Classes
Mat Pilates: (60 min) The Pilates method is not just a series of exercises, but a complete approach to developing body awareness. Pilates focuses on the core (abdominals and lower back) and helps to promote flexibility.
Ball Pilates: (45 min) Take Pilates on the stability ball for a complete flexibility and toning workout. By utilizing the stability ball this class becomes more advanced and will keep you coming back for more.
Stretching Classes
Beginner Stretch and Strengthen: (60 min) If you like yoga, you’ll love stretch & strengthen. This class provides a supportive, safe, and relaxing way to maintain and improve flexibility while utilizing both static poses and advanced stretching techniques.
