Summer Discovery students will be able to enjoy recreation privileges with a full summer membership at the finest health and fitness club in all of Florence. The renowned Tropos Health Club is within easy walking distance from the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo. Tropos Health Club provides first-class gym amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center with dozens of cardio-machines, elliptical machines, treadmills and free weights. The club also features a 25 meter indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, and spa services (additional fee) to fulfill all of your fitness needs.

Athletics are fairly easy to practice in Florence. There is the brand new athletic stadium in the Campo di Marte, you can play tennis just below Piazzale Michelangelo, or try rowing on the Arno river, and more.

Sports Plus Program

Summer Discovery students may swim, run, jog, or just workout with weights in the state-of-the-art athletic facilities of Tropos. In addition, students may also attend any of the fitness classes described below. They are offered at regular intervals throughout the summer:

• Wellness Circuit This high-intensity workout, on weight machines, is a featured highlight of Tropos.
• Aerobics  You’ll learn the basic steps and techniques of this great workout.
• Yogaflex  This full body workout is an upbeat yoga class based on the principles of astanga (power yoga).
• Stretching Balancing muscle strength with cardiovascular training.
• Swimming Swim to get fit with various water activities, including lap swimming and several different fitness classes in the pool.
• Sports Conditioning Using the latest TechoGym system, workout on the best equipment around.
• Tennis at Tropos There’s one court at Tropos Health Club. Reservations are a must.
