Tuition includes: Term fees, full academic enrichment program, use of facilities, housing, 3 meals Monday-Friday, 2 meals on weekend (while on campus), recreation pass, activities, trips and excursions per catalog, and blanket and pillow.
Not included: Airfare, airport transfers (available for $40 each way), books and classroom materials, course supplements, meals eaten off campus, medical expenses, laundry, linens, souvenirs, and personal spending money (approximately $100-$150 per week suggested).
As a member of the “Big East” Athletic Conference, Georgetown features excellent recreational and athletic facilities, including one of the mid-Atlantic’s finest indoor sports complexes. The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team is always a national powerhouse and has graduated numerous NBA players. Summer Discovery students enjoy full Georgetown recreation privileges and can choose from a superb selection of facilities and activities at no charge (except where noted). In addition, excellent canoeing, rowing and jogging are just steps from campus on the Potomac River and C & O Canal Towpath.
Yates Field House Georgetown’s state-of-the-art indoor facility is ingeniously built into a sloping hillside, and its roof is the astroturf field used by Georgetown students, and Summer Discovery for a variety of sports. The facilities in Yates include 4 full Basketball courts, 4 squash courts, 4 racquetball courts, 6 indoor tennis courts, a volleyball court, a 25 yard indoor pool with training lanes and a diving well, saunas, a 6 lane jogging track, dozens of stairmasters, lifecycles, and rowing machines, a great weight room featuring Cybex, Nautilus, and Universal machines, and an excellent dance/aerobics room.
Georgetown Stadium and Track The roof of Yates Field House is literally the playing field for Georgetown Intramurals. The astroturf field is available for football and soccer games and is surrounded by a competition quality rubberized 9 lane track.
Outdoor Tennis Courts Close to our residence hall are 8 championship courts (plus 6 indoor courts at Yates). A phone call will reserve your court.
Outdoor Basketball Courts Next to the tennis courts are 3 full court basketball courts.
Georgetown Fields Meticulously manicured soccer, field hockey, and softball fields are available for intramural and pick-up play.
Canoeing On the Potomac River Picturesque canoe trips on this world famous river that passes by the Georgetown campus.
C & O Canal Towpath This canal and adjacent Towpath stretches from Georgetown 150 miles into Maryland and is ideal for biking, hiking, and jogging.
Students who wish to extend their participation beyond the regular recreation and athletic program may choose to participate in one or more Sports Plus offerings. Instruction is given by top college coaches, high school coaches, collegiate athletes and instructors on a regular basis throughout the program. All of the Sports Plus programs utilize the newly renovated facilities of Georgetown University’s Yates Field House, with the exception of the Rowing The Potomac class, which meets at the Georgetown Boathouse.
Tennis/Group Lessons
For beginners or advanced players, this intensive tennis course offers you highly personalized instruction, a conditioning program, strategy sessions, video assisted stroke evaluation, and supervised play. Meets at Georgetown’s outdoor Tennis Courts for 1 hour, 2 times a week. Limited Enrollment. Fee: $250
Basketball
Concentrated basketball program emphasizing individual skills, game strategy, playing and practice time. Meets for 3 hours per week working with players and local coaches plus additional game time at the famous Yates Field House. Fee: $150
Weight Training & Conditioning
Develop skills and techniques to improve your strength, stamina, and health. Expert instruction while you workout in the well equipped Yates Field House athletic weight room utilizing Cybex, Nautilus, and Universal weights. Meets twice weekly for 1 hour. Fee: $150
Aerobic Kickboxing
You have seen it on T.V., your friends are doing it, now it is your turn. This high intensity workout improves your strength, health and is a lot of fun. Get ready for some great new tunes and a full body workout. Guaranteed to pump your adrenaline level to new heights. Meets twice a week for 1 hour. Fee: $150
Rowing The Potomac
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of rowing theory, technique, and boat handling. Rowing is an ideal low-impact exercise and a rhythmic, soothing release to reduce tension. Skulls, fours, and eights with coxswain will be taught on the Potomac River. Meets twice per week for 2 hours. No experience is necessary for this incredible full body workout. Fee: $275 (very limited enrollment)
