All DiscoveryWorks Community Service Programs operate as part of the greater Summer Discovery program on each campus. See individual SUMMER DISCOVERY pre-college enrichment campus sections for specific information about accommodations, trips & excursions, sports & recreation, meals and transportation.

• 3 or 2 weeks for students completing grades 9, 10, 11
• Earn approximately 45 hours of Community Service
• Enjoy evening activities and weekend excursions
• CCRB recreation privileges

DiscoveryWorks Community Service

Summer Discovery @ Michigan is proud to partner with the University of Michigan Ginsberg Center for Community Service and Learning, and U of M Project SERVE to allow high school students to meaningfully give back to the Ann Arbor community. What better place to serve the greater community than the birthplace of the Peace Corps? (President John F. Kennedy announced the formation of the Peace Corps on the steps of Michigan Union) Volunteer at one of the most prestigious and prodigious university programs for service learning.

Earn 50 hours of community service in our 3-week program, and 40 hours during our 2-week program. Projects may include working with Recycle Ann Arbor (promoting the wide use of resources), Ronald McDonald house (working with children), Ann Arbor Hunger Coalition (providing free meals to the Ann Arbor community), Nichols Arboretum (Huron River clean up), and U of M Health Services Volunteers (working in various departments at the university’s hospital).

Note: This program meets daily both morning and afternoon in and around Ann Arbor. Due to the time commitment involved with this program, no other classes may be taken in conjunction with DiscoveryWorks.
